Brazilian laser hair removal reduces hair across the bikini and intimate area over a course of sessions, so you can step away from regular waxing and the ingrown hairs and irritation that often come with it. It gives long-term reduction rather than total, lasting removal, and a top-up now and then is common.
Our clinic on Edgware Road in W2 offers diode laser and IPL for everything from a standard bikini line to a fuller intimate area. Exactly how much is treated is your choice, and we talk it through privately at consultation before anything is booked.
Brazilian laser is priced at that free consultation, and a patch test is carried out before your first full session.
What does a Brazilian laser treatment cover?
Salons and clinics use the same words in slightly different ways, so it helps to be specific. As a rough guide:
- Bikini line: hair that sits outside the edges of your underwear.
- Extended bikini: a little further in from the line, at the top and sides.
- Brazilian: most of the hair at the front and between the legs, sometimes leaving a small strip or shape.
- Hollywood: the term people use when they want all of the hair in the intimate area treated.
Rather than relying on a label, tell us what you want to keep and what you want gone. We agree the exact area with you at consultation, and you can change your mind about the shape before the course starts.
How is privacy handled?
The intimate area is discussed in a private consultation rather than through the booking form. When you request an appointment, you only need to give your name, a phone number and, if you like, the treatment. Please leave medical details out of the form, as we go through them in person.
If you would rather ask a few questions first, you can message us on WhatsApp before you commit to anything. Nothing is booked until we confirm a time with you.
How should you prepare for a Brazilian session?
- Stop waxing about four weeks before. Waxing, sugaring, plucking and epilating remove the root that the light needs to target, and they should stay off the menu for the whole course.
- Shave about 24 hours before each session. A close, careful shave means the light acts on the follicle rather than on hair lying on the surface. Leave depilatory creams out of your routine.
- Avoid tanning the area. Keep away from sunbeds and self-tan on the bikini area for several weeks beforehand.
- Come freshly washed. Skip lotion, deodorant and perfume on the area on the day.
If shaving the area leaves you with nicks or a rash, mention it when you arrive, as broken skin needs to heal before it is treated.
How comfortable is laser on the bikini area?
The bikini area is one of the more sensitive places to treat, and dark, dense hair there absorbs a lot of light, so it can feel sharper than the legs or arms. Each pulse is quick, often described as a rubber band snap with a moment of warmth, and the skin is cooled as we go.
You are in control of the pace. Tell your practitioner if something feels too strong, and settings can be adjusted. Many people find the sensation eases over the course as the hair becomes finer.
What hygiene and aftercare matter afterwards?
Redness and small raised bumps around each follicle are expected, and usually calm within a few hours to a day or two. For the next 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms and intense exercise, all of which add heat and friction to treated skin. Loose, breathable clothing can feel more comfortable while it settles.
Keep the area clean and cool, and use only a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser. Treated hairs work their way out over one to three weeks. Let them shed, or exfoliate gently, rather than picking or plucking. If blisters appear, or something does not feel right, get in touch with us.
Will it help with bikini ingrown hairs?
Coarse, curly hair in the bikini area often grows back into the skin after shaving or waxing, leaving sore bumps and dark marks. As laser reduces the number of hairs, there are fewer to become trapped, and many people find ingrown hairs become less of a problem. Results vary, and existing dark marks may need separate treatment once the hair is under control. Our page on ingrown hairs and razor bumps covers why they happen and how to shave between sessions.
When should you wait or choose another option?
Treatment is postponed during pregnancy. It also waits if there is any infection, sore or broken skin in the area, including an active herpes outbreak, or if you are taking a medicine that makes skin sensitive to light, such as isotretinoin or some antibiotics. Tattoos in the area are avoided, dark birthmarks and raised moles are covered, and we need to talk first if you have recently tanned, have epilepsy triggered by light, or have skin that flares with heat.
When you are ready, book a free, private consultation by WhatsApp on 07479 973309, by phone on 020 4619 8781, or through our contact page.
A new or changing mole, an unexplained rash or a genital skin problem nobody has looked at should be checked by your GP or a sexual health clinic first. If you feel unwell after a session and cannot reach us, NHS 111 can help.
Brazilian laser hair removal: your questions answered
How many Brazilian laser sessions will I need?
For body areas like the bikini, six to eight sessions is a typical course, spaced four to eight weeks apart. Hormones, hair colour and thickness all affect the number, and we review your progress at each visit.
Do I need to shave everything before my appointment?
Shave the area you are having treated, about 24 hours before. You do not need to shave hair you are keeping, and we will confirm the treatment area with you on the day.
Can I wax between Brazilian laser sessions?
No. Waxing pulls out the root and makes the next session less effective. Shaving is fine between sessions.
Does Brazilian laser work on darker skin?
It can, with the right method and careful settings. Of our two methods, diode is usually the more adaptable for deeper skin tones, and the patch test shows how your skin reacts before a full session.
Can I combine Brazilian with other areas?
Yes. Many people pair the bikini area with underarms or legs in the same visit. Each area is planned at the interval that suits it.
Can I book in the summer?
Yes, provided the bikini area is not tanned. Keep it covered, avoid sunbeds and self-tan, and use SPF on any treated skin that is exposed between sessions.
