Cheek fillers use a firmer hyaluronic acid gel placed over the cheekbones to restore volume lost with age or to add shape and definition. They suit adults whose mid-face has flattened or who would like more structure. At ZARA Aesthetic Medical Clinic on Edgware Road, London W2, cheek filler is priced at consultation because the amount needed varies from face to face.

For adults aged 18 and over only. UK law does not allow anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers for cosmetic purposes on anyone under 18, and we may ask for photo ID.

What cheek fillers do

The cheeks act as scaffolding for the middle of the face. When they have good volume, they support the skin around them, including the area under the eyes and the folds that run from nose to mouth.

Cheek filler places a firm hyaluronic acid gel deep over the cheekbone, close to the bone, where it adds support and shape. Depending on your aims, it can rebuild volume that has faded, give a little more lift to the upper cheek, or add definition to cheekbones that have always been fairly flat.

Because the cheeks support so much of the face, a modest amount here can sometimes make neighbouring areas look softer too. That's one reason we assess the whole face rather than only the spot you point to.

Why the cheeks change over time

From our thirties onwards, the fat pads in the cheeks gradually lose volume and tend to sit a little lower. The bone underneath also changes slowly with age. Together, these shifts can make the face look flatter at the front, more hollow under the eyes and heavier around the mouth and jaw.

People often notice this first as looking tired in photos, or as deeper lines beside the nose. Adding support back to the upper cheek is one way to address the cause rather than chasing each line separately.

Weight loss, sun exposure and genetics also play a part, which is why two people of the same age can have very different cheeks. Some people in their twenties ask about cheek filler simply because their cheekbones have always been flat, and that is a different conversation from replacing lost volume.

Are cheek fillers right for you?

Cheek filler may suit you if one or more of the following applies. The consultation and medical assessment will confirm whether it's appropriate.

  • Your cheeks look flatter than they used to, or you feel you look tired when you're not
  • You'd like more definition to your cheekbones while keeping a natural look
  • Hollows under the eyes or folds beside the nose seem to be linked to lost volume above them
  • One cheek looks fuller than the other and you'd like better balance

When cheek filler isn't the right choice

Treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if there is an active infection or inflamed skin on the cheeks, or if you've reacted badly to filler in the past. Some autoimmune conditions and medicines that affect bleeding can also change suitability.

If your concern is mainly skin texture, dullness or fine lines rather than volume, filler may not be the answer. In that case we may talk about hydrating skin boosters or microneedling for texture instead.

What happens during cheek filler treatment

Appointments are booked as 40 minutes, including the consultation.

  1. We discuss what you've noticed in your face and go through your medical history.
  2. We study your cheeks from the front, side and at an angle, as cheek shape changes with the viewing angle.
  3. We agree a plan and the likely amount of filler, and explain possible side effects and aftercare.
  4. The skin is cleansed, entry points are marked and the filler is placed in small amounts.
  5. We compare both sides as we go, then you check the result in the mirror before you leave.

Results and how long cheek fillers last

You'll usually see a difference once treatment is finished, with the result settling over about two weeks as any swelling goes down.

Firmer gels placed deep in the cheeks tend to last longer than filler in more mobile areas. Cheek filler commonly lasts around a year, and sometimes longer, although this varies with the product, the amount used and your own metabolism. Many people come back for a smaller top-up rather than repeating the full treatment.

Aftercare and possible side effects

Mild swelling, tenderness and bruising are common for a few days. The cheeks may feel firm or slightly lumpy to the touch at first, which usually softens as the filler settles. For the first night or two, try to sleep on your back, and avoid pressing or massaging the cheeks unless you've been advised to.

Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and alcohol for a day or two. Rare complications, including filler affecting a blood vessel or infection, will be explained at your consultation. Contact the clinic straight away if you notice increasing pain, skin colour changes or changes to your vision.

Cheek filler price, and getting here from nearby

Dermal filler cheek is priced at consultation. Some people need relatively little product while others need more to achieve balanced support, so we only quote once we've assessed you. Prices are per session, and you can compare other areas on our full treatments list.

We're open Monday to Saturday 10:30am to 8pm, and Sundays and bank holidays 1pm to 5pm. Contact the clinic by WhatsApp, phone or email to book.

Cheek fillers: your questions answered

How much do cheek fillers cost at ZARA?

Dermal filler cheek is priced at consultation, because the amount needed differs from person to person. You'll have a clear price before any treatment goes ahead.

Will cheek filler make my face look puffy?

Overfilled cheeks can look puffy, which is why we plan amounts carefully and favour support over size. Results vary from person to person.

Can cheek filler help with tired-looking under-eyes?

Sometimes. If hollowness under the eyes is linked to lost cheek volume, supporting the cheek can make the area look softer. We'll assess whether that applies to you.

Does cheek filler lift the face?

It can give a subtle lifted look by restoring support to the upper cheek. It is not the same as a surgical lift, and we'll be clear about what to expect.

Can I wear glasses after cheek filler?

Light glasses are generally fine. If your frames sit heavily on the upper cheek, mention it at consultation so we can advise you.

Is it normal for the cheeks to feel firm afterwards?

Yes, a slightly firm feel is common for the first week or two and usually softens. Contact us if you have increasing pain or any skin colour change.

Can I combine cheek and lip filler?

Sometimes, if it suits your plan. Our lip filler page explains that treatment in more detail.

How do I know whether I've lost volume or just have flat cheekbones?

Old photos are a useful guide. If your cheeks looked fuller a few years ago, volume loss is likely. If they have always looked flat, the plan focuses on shape and definition instead.
