Chin filler is a firm hyaluronic acid gel placed at the chin to increase projection, lengthen a short chin or improve symmetry. It suits adults who feel their chin is small or set back relative to the nose and lips, and who want a non-surgical, temporary option. At ZARA on Edgware Road, London W2, chin filler is priced at consultation.

For adults aged 18 and over only. UK law does not allow anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers for cosmetic purposes on anyone under 18, and we may ask for photo ID.

What chin filler involves

The chin sits at the centre of the lower face, so small changes to it can alter how the nose, lips and jaw relate to one another. A chin that's set back can make the nose look more prominent and the neck less defined, even when nothing else needs attention.

Chin filler uses a firm hyaluronic acid gel placed close to the bone. It can bring the chin forward, add a little length, or even out a chin that's slightly off-centre. Because the result is temporary, it's also a way to see how a stronger chin looks on you before considering anything longer-lasting.

People are often surprised by how much a chin affects the rest of their face. Someone who came in wanting a smaller-looking nose or fuller lips may find that a modest change at the chin brings those features into better proportion, without touching them at all.

Looking at your profile: what chin filler can change

Most chin assessments happen side-on. We look at where your chin sits in relation to your lips and nose, and how it flows into the jaw. These are some of the changes people commonly ask about.

  • A chin that sits back, so the profile looks weak or the neck less defined
  • A short chin that makes the lower third of the face look compressed
  • A chin that's slightly off-centre or uneven from the front
  • A soft transition between the chin and the jawline
  • A nose that looks larger than you'd like because the chin is set back

Chin filler or something else?

Not every chin concern is about projection. A dimpled, orange-peel texture on the chin is usually caused by an overactive muscle, which anti-wrinkle treatment may suit better than filler. Fullness under the chin is often fat rather than a bone issue, and fat dissolving injections might be worth discussing.

If the jaw edge is the main concern, jawline filler may be the better starting point, and the two are often planned together. Where the chin is very small or the bite is affected, a surgical or dental opinion may be more appropriate, and we'll say so.

Who should wait

Treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if there's an active infection or breakout on the chin, or if you've reacted to filler before. Let us know about any autoimmune conditions and medicines that affect bleeding.

If you have recently had dental work, or have some planned, mention it at consultation, as it's usually best to leave a gap between the two. Avoid booking in the fortnight before an important event.

What happens at a chin filler appointment

Your appointment is booked as 40 minutes, consultation included.

  1. We discuss what you'd like to change and go through your medical history.
  2. We assess your profile, measure proportions between the nose, lips and chin, and check symmetry from the front.
  3. We agree a plan and explain possible side effects and aftercare before you consent.
  4. The skin is cleansed and filler is placed in small amounts, checking the profile as we go.
  5. You review the result in the mirror from the side as well as the front.

How long chin filler lasts, and aftercare

A change is usually visible by the end of the appointment, and the final shape is easier to judge after about two weeks. Chin filler is placed deep and moves less than lip filler, so it commonly lasts around a year or more. This varies with the product, the amount and your own metabolism.

Swelling, tenderness and some bruising are common for a few days, and the chin may feel firm for a week or two. For a day or two, avoid pressing on the chin, tight helmet straps where you can, strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol. Rare complications, including infection or filler affecting a blood vessel, will be explained before treatment. Contact us straight away if pain increases or the skin changes colour.

Chin filler: your questions answered

How much does chin filler cost at ZARA?

Dermal filler Chin is priced at consultation, because the amount needed varies. You'll have a clear price before any treatment.

Can chin filler make my nose look smaller?

It doesn't change the nose itself, but bringing a set-back chin forward can make the nose look more in proportion. Results vary from person to person.

Is chin filler the same as a chin implant?

No. Filler is a temporary, non-surgical gel, while an implant is a surgical procedure. Filler won't suit every chin, and we'll tell you if a surgical opinion would serve you better.

Will chin filler make my face look longer?

It can if length is added. The plan depends on what your chin needs, which may be projection, length or both, and we'll show you what we have in mind before starting.

Can chin filler help a double chin?

A stronger chin can make the neck look more defined, but it doesn't remove fat. Fat under the chin may be better discussed as a separate treatment.

Why is my chin dimpled when I talk?

That texture usually comes from muscle activity rather than lost volume. It's assessed separately and may suit a different treatment.

Can I go to work after chin filler?

Most people do. You may have some swelling or small marks, so if you have an important meeting or photos, allow a little extra time.

Does chin filler suit men as well as women?

Yes. Men often want a broader, squarer chin, while women more often ask for a slimmer, slightly more pointed shape. The plan is tailored to the look that suits your face.
