Our excessive sweating treatment uses anti-wrinkle injections in the underarms to reduce how much the sweat glands there produce. It is an option for adults with heavy underarm sweating, known as axillary hyperhidrosis, who find antiperspirants are not enough. At ZARA on Edgware Road, London W2, Underarm excessive sweating treatment costs £350, following a consultation and medical assessment.

For adults aged 18 and over only. UK law does not allow anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers for cosmetic purposes on anyone under 18, and we may ask for photo ID.

Hyperhidrosis: when sweating outpaces what your body needs

Hyperhidrosis means sweating more than the body needs to control its temperature. The most common form, primary focal hyperhidrosis, often begins in the teens or early adulthood and tends to affect the underarms, palms, soles or face, without any underlying illness behind it.

Secondary hyperhidrosis is different. It is caused by another condition or by a medicine, and it more often affects the whole body or happens at night. That distinction matters, which is why we ask about your history before suggesting any hyperhidrosis treatment in London or anywhere else.

For many people the practical effects are what wear them down: changing shirts at lunchtime, avoiding grey or pale colours, worrying about raising an arm in a meeting. Those are reasonable reasons to look for help.

How underarm sweating injections work

The injections use the same type of medicine as our wrinkle-softening treatment, placed in a different way. Instead of relaxing a muscle, it blocks the nerve signals that switch on the sweat glands in the treated skin.

The glands are not removed or damaged. They simply receive less of the signal for a period of time, so the underarm produces noticeably less sweat. Your body continues to sweat normally elsewhere, and the underarms account for only a small share of the sweat you produce for cooling.

The medicine is placed just beneath the skin using a series of small, shallow injections spread across the area where you sweat most.

Is excessive sweating treatment right for you?

You may be a good candidate if several of the points below sound familiar. A consultation and medical assessment will confirm whether treatment is appropriate.

  • You've tried clinical-strength antiperspirants without enough improvement
  • Sweat marks or dampness affect what you wear or how confident you feel at work
  • Your sweating is mainly in the underarms and has been present for a long time
  • You're in good general health and are not pregnant or breastfeeding

Who should see their GP first

If your sweating started recently, happens mostly at night, affects your whole body, or comes with fever, weight loss or other new symptoms, please speak to your GP before booking any cosmetic treatment. These patterns can point to an underlying cause that needs checking.

Treatment is also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if there is an infection in the underarm skin, or for people with certain neuromuscular conditions. Some medicines can affect suitability too, so bring a list of everything you take to your consultation.

What happens at your hyperhidrosis appointment

Appointments are booked as 40 minutes. When you book, we'll let you know how to prepare, which commonly means shaving a day or two beforehand and arriving without deodorant on the day.

  1. Consultation: we talk about how long you've had heavy sweating, what you've already tried and your medical history.
  2. Assessment: we confirm treatment is suitable and outline the area of heaviest sweating in each underarm.
  3. Consent: we explain what to expect, possible side effects and aftercare.
  4. Treatment: the skin is cleansed and a number of small, shallow injections are given across each underarm.
  5. Aftercare: we go through what to avoid for the next day and how to contact us with any questions.

Results and how long they usually last

Most people notice their underarms becoming drier within a few days to two weeks. The aim is a clear reduction in sweating rather than none at all, and the degree of improvement varies from person to person.

The effect commonly lasts several months, often somewhere around four to six months and sometimes longer, before sweating gradually returns. Many people plan a repeat appointment once they notice it building up again, or a few weeks ahead of summer, a holiday or a big event.

Aftercare and possible side effects

For the first 24 hours it's generally advised to avoid deodorant or antiperspirant, hot baths, saunas and strenuous exercise, and not to massage the underarms. Normal daily activities are usually fine straight away.

Side effects are possible and will be discussed at your consultation. The most common are tenderness, small bumps or mild bruising at the injection points, which usually settle within a few days. A headache or a brief flu-like feeling can occasionally occur. If something doesn't feel right, contact the clinic by phone or WhatsApp.

Excessive sweating treatment: your questions answered

How much does hyperhidrosis treatment cost at ZARA?

Underarm excessive sweating treatment is £350 per session. Your plan and price are confirmed at consultation after a medical assessment.

Is this the same treatment as anti-wrinkle injections?

It uses the same type of medicine, but it is placed in the underarm skin to reduce sweat gland activity rather than in facial muscles to soften lines. The dose and technique are different.

Will I stop sweating completely?

That isn't the aim. Most people see a clear reduction in underarm sweating, and how much varies between individuals. We'll talk about realistic expectations at your consultation.

Is it a problem to sweat less under my arms?

The underarms produce only a small proportion of the sweat your body uses to cool down. You'll continue to sweat normally elsewhere.

How far ahead of a holiday or wedding should I book?

Leave at least two to three weeks. The effect builds over a few days to two weeks, and that gives time for any tenderness or bruising to settle.

Should I shave or wear deodorant before my appointment?

It's commonly advised to shave a day or two before and to come without deodorant on the day. We'll confirm how to prepare when you book.

Do you treat sweating in other areas?

Our listed treatment is for the underarms. If sweating elsewhere bothers you, mention it at consultation and we'll talk through your options honestly.

Can I exercise normally once the treatment has taken effect?

Yes. After the first 24 hours you can return to your usual exercise. Many people find they feel more comfortable at the gym or on a run once underarm sweating has eased.
