A PRP facial uses platelet-rich plasma, separated from a small sample of your own blood, which is then reintroduced into the skin to support its natural renewal. People choose it for dullness, fine lines, uneven texture and tired-looking skin. At ZARA Aesthetic Medical Clinic, 304 Edgware Road, London W2, PRP Face and PRP Neck are each £150 per session.

For adults aged 18 and over only, and we may ask for photo ID.

What is a PRP facial?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Your blood contains platelets, which carry proteins known as growth factors that play a part in the body's normal repair processes. In a PRP facial, a small amount of blood is taken from your arm and spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is rich in platelets, from the red blood cells.

That plasma is then placed back into the skin, either through fine injections or alongside microneedling. Because it comes from you, there is no added filler or synthetic gel involved. The goal is to encourage your skin's own processes, which is why changes tend to be gradual.

Why people book a PRP facial in London

Most people who ask about PRP have tried good skincare and facials, and want something that works a little deeper without changing their features. Others like the idea of a treatment based on their own blood. Common reasons include the following.

  • Dull, tired-looking skin, particularly around the cheeks and under the eyes
  • Fine lines and early loss of firmness
  • Uneven skin texture and enlarged-looking pores
  • The look of some shallow acne scarring, often as part of a wider plan
  • Crepey skin and fine lines on the neck

Who a PRP facial may not suit

Because the treatment involves a blood draw and your own platelets, your general health matters more than with many skin treatments. We take a full medical history first, and we may recommend a different option or ask you to speak to your GP.

PRP may not be appropriate if any of these apply. Please tell us at consultation even if you are unsure.

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Blood or platelet disorders, or anaemia
  • Taking blood-thinning medicines or regular anti-inflammatory painkillers
  • Active skin infection, cold sores or severe active acne on the face
  • Ongoing treatment for cancer, or certain other serious medical conditions
  • A strong fear of needles or of having blood taken

Your PRP facial appointment at ZARA

Appointments are booked as 40 minutes. Every treatment at ZARA starts with a consultation and medical assessment, and nothing goes ahead until you are happy with the plan.

  1. We discuss your skin concerns, health, medicines and what you hope to achieve.
  2. A small blood sample is taken from your arm, similar to a routine blood test.
  3. The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
  4. Your skin is cleansed and prepared while comfort options are discussed with you.
  5. The plasma is applied to the face or neck through fine injections or with microneedling, depending on your plan.
  6. We talk through aftercare and when to expect changes before you leave.

PRP facial results: what is realistic

PRP does not give an overnight change. Any improvement usually builds over several weeks as the skin goes through its normal renewal cycle. Many people describe their skin looking brighter and smoother, but results vary from person to person and some notice only a modest difference.

A course of sessions spaced roughly four to six weeks apart is often suggested, followed by occasional maintenance. Results are not permanent, because the skin continues to age. Your practitioner will give an honest view of what PRP is likely to achieve for your skin at consultation.

Aftercare and possible side effects

Your face may look pink or red for a day or so, a little like mild sunburn, especially if microneedling was used. Swelling, tenderness and small bruises at injection points or at the blood draw site are also common. Infection is uncommon but possible, and we will go through all possible side effects before you agree to treatment.

  • Avoid washing the face for several hours, then use a gentle cleanser
  • Keep make-up off until the next day where you can
  • Stay away from saunas, steam rooms and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours
  • Avoid exfoliants, retinoids and acids for several days
  • Protect your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF and limit direct sun

PRP facial: your questions answered

How much blood is taken for a PRP facial?

Only a small sample is needed, typically about the amount taken for a routine blood test. Your practitioner will explain the process before starting.

Is PRP the same as a facial with microneedling?

Not quite. Microneedling alone creates tiny channels to prompt the skin's repair response. With PRP, your own plasma is added, either through the microneedling or by fine injections.

Should I eat before my appointment?

It is usually sensible to eat normally and drink plenty of water beforehand, as this can make the blood draw easier. Let us know if you have ever felt faint having blood taken.

Can I treat my face and neck in the same visit?

Often this is possible, depending on your assessment and the time available. PRP Face and PRP Neck are each priced at £150, and we will confirm the plan at consultation.

Can PRP be used under the eyes?

The under-eye area is a common concern. Whether PRP is suitable for you there depends on your skin and anatomy, and your practitioner will advise after examining you.

When can I wear make-up again?

We usually suggest waiting until the next day so the skin has time to settle. Use clean brushes and gentle products for the first few days.

Can I have a PRP facial if I have had fillers?

In many cases, yes, but timing matters. Tell us about any recent filler work or other treatments so we can plan sensibly around it.
