Fat dissolving injections are a series of small injections into a pocket of fat, such as under the chin, that break down some of the fat cells in that area. They are for contouring small stubborn areas in people already near a stable weight, not for losing weight. At ZARA in London W2 they cost from £75–£300 per session depending on the area, and usually involve a course.
For adults aged 18 and over only, and we may ask for photo ID.
What are fat dissolving injections?
Fat dissolving injections use an injectable solution that disrupts the walls of fat cells in the area treated. Over the following weeks, the body gradually clears the broken-down cells through its normal processes. Several small injections are placed in a grid pattern across the area so the solution is spread evenly.
The treatment is designed for small, defined areas. It does not change your overall body weight and will not replace the effect of eating well and staying active. We will tell you plainly if we think the area you have in mind is better left alone or suited to something else.
Areas commonly treated with fat dissolving injections in London
The area people ask about most is the fullness under the chin, often called a double chin, which can persist even in people who are slim. Other small areas are sometimes considered, and the right area for you is agreed at consultation.
Commonly discussed areas include:
- Under the chin and along the jaw
- Small bulges just above the bra line
- Small areas on the inner knee
- Small pockets on the lower abdomen or flanks, depending on assessment
Good candidates, and when it is not suitable
The people most likely to be pleased with the outcome are adults at or close to a stable weight, with a soft, pinchable pocket of fat and realistic expectations. Fullness under the chin is not always fat. Loose skin, the shape of the jaw or the position of the neck muscles can all play a part, and injections will not change those.
Treatment is usually not offered in these situations:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Anyone looking to lose a significant amount of weight
- Infection, inflammation or broken skin in the area
- Swallowing difficulties, or certain thyroid or neck conditions, when treating under the chin
- Bleeding disorders, some blood-thinning medicines, or allergy to any ingredient
What happens at your appointment
Appointments are booked as 40 minutes. Wear clothing that gives easy access to the area being treated.
- Assessment: the practitioner examines the area, asks about your health and medicines, and explains whether injections are likely to help.
- Planning and consent: you agree the area, the number of sessions likely to be needed, the price and the possible side effects.
- Photos and marking: the area may be photographed for your records and marked with a grid.
- Injections: the skin is cleaned and a series of small injections is given. Most people feel stinging or a burning sensation that settles over the next few minutes to hours.
- Aftercare: you receive written guidance before you leave and can return to most normal activities.
Results: why it is usually a course
Change is gradual. Swelling hides any difference at first, and most people only start to judge the effect several weeks after a session. Because each session treats a limited amount of fat, a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart is usually recommended. The number varies from person to person and depends on the area.
Fat cells that have been broken down are not usually replaced, but the remaining fat cells in the area can still grow if your weight goes up. Results vary, and no outcome can be promised to any individual. Keeping your weight steady helps you hold on to the change.
Aftercare and possible side effects
Swelling is expected and is the side effect people notice most, particularly under the chin, where it can be quite visible for several days. Plan your session around anything important you have coming up. A cold compress can help, and we will explain what to avoid in the first day or two.
Other side effects will be discussed at your consultation. Contact us if anything concerns you.
- Redness, tenderness, bruising and a warm or burning feeling in the area
- Numbness or tingling, which can last a few weeks
- Firmness or small lumps under the skin while the area settles
- Less commonly, difficulty swallowing or an uneven smile after chin treatment, which should be reported to us straight away
Fat dissolving injection prices at ZARA
Fat Dissolving Injections cost from £75–£300 per session, depending on the size of the area. Because treatment is usually a course, your practitioner will give you an idea of the total number of sessions likely to be needed before you start, and your final plan and price are confirmed at consultation.
If the concern under your chin turns out to be more about jawline shape than fat, we may talk you through other options such as jawline filler or chin filler, each with its own consultation.
Close to Bayswater, Marble Arch and Mayfair
A course means several visits, so a clinic that is easy to reach makes a difference. We are at 304 Edgware Road, about 50 metres from the Bakerloo line entrance to Edgware Road station, with the Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines a two to three minute walk away on Chapel Street.
From Marble Arch it is a straight walk up Edgware Road of around three quarters of a mile. Clients from Bayswater can take the Circle or District line, and those working in Mayfair are a short Tube hop away. We open until 8pm Monday to Saturday.
Fat dissolving injections: your questions answered
How many fat dissolving sessions will I need?
Most people need a course rather than a single session, but the number depends on the area and how much fat is there. Your practitioner will give you an estimate at consultation and review progress at each visit before suggesting another session.
Can fat dissolving injections help me lose weight?
No. They are designed to reduce a small pocket of fat in one area and make no meaningful difference to your overall weight. If losing weight is your goal, your GP is a good place to start.
How long does the swelling last after double chin injections?
Swelling under the chin is common and can be noticeable for several days, sometimes longer. It varies from person to person. Many people choose to book a session when they have a quieter week ahead.
How long before I see a difference?
Once the swelling has gone down, any change develops gradually over the following weeks. Most people judge the effect after several weeks, and the full picture usually becomes clearer over the course of treatment.
Which product do you use?
We explain the solution, how it works and its possible side effects at your consultation, where you can ask any questions about it. We do not name products on our website.
Can I exercise after fat dissolving injections?
It is usually advised to avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and heat treatments for a short period afterwards while the area settles. Your aftercare sheet will set out exactly what to avoid and for how long.
Is fat dissolving the same as liposuction?
No. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that physically removes fat. Fat dissolving injections are non-surgical, treat much smaller areas and work gradually over a course. If you are unsure which route suits you, our team can be reached here to arrange a consultation.
